Margaret Wheeldon

Margaret is a member of the McClelland Guild of Artists and served as  Hon. Secretary to the Peninsula Arts Society for 15 years until her retirement in 2008.    She is also a Life Member of the latter society.

Her paintings are shown in various galleries in Victoria particularly around the Mornington Peninsula.   She has also sold overseas and her paintings hang in Japan, U.S.A., Germany, France. Holland and the U.K.   In 2005 she was invited to hold  successful solo exhibition in Melbourne where her work was very well received.

Margaret was born and educated in England and in 1981, with her husband and four children, migrated to Australia.  When the children left school Margaret found that she had more time available and commenced her first steps into her love of painting studying under world renowned artists including Colin Johnson, Malcolm Beattie, Robert Wade, Peter Smales and Joseph Zhubvic.  Her fondness of the countryside and the landscape is apparent in her paintings which capture the beauties of the colour of the Australian stage.

Margaret’s initial step in a landscape painting is to make several pencil sketches, then  choosing the correct canvas size & type she marks in the main features.   Further visits to the site  together with her easel and paints  are required and if the weather is uncooperative she will complete the work in her home studio.  She also works from photographs but much prefers painting from the actual outdoor scenes.

Margaret has exhibited and sold in many venues and is currently exhibiting at the Guild of Artists own art gallery at the Packing House in Tyabb.
