Joan Vida

Joan has always had a passion for art, whether it was in the study of art, the teaching of art, visiting art Galleries or practicing art.

Her art training took place in Adelaide, SA, at the South Australian School of art in the mid 1960’s.

After retiring from teaching in 2014 and moving permanently to the Mornington Peninsula, Joan found new sources of artistic inspiration. The beautiful seascapes and landscapes of the Mornington Peninsula provided many opportunities for developing her individual style and producing artworks.

Joan says she has been fortunate to be able to join two plein air painting groups, which have not only taken her to wonderful places offering visually stimulating subject matter, but also the company of like minded people who express each subject in highly individual ways. They sometimes battle adverse weather conditions, but also often work on perfect sunny days and she feels blessed to do so. Working ‘plein air’ encourages Joan to experience diversification with painting and drawing media.

Joan has enjoyed depicting landscapes with printmaking (etching) techniques and a variety of painting and drawing materials when trying to capture the atmosphere and essence of the landscape in front of her.

Joan feels that she is "most grateful for the opportunity to display my work at the Guild Art Gallery in Tyabb on the Mornington Peninsula."
